The Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan was established in 1981 with the Decree of Study Program Establishment Number 0307/0/1981, signed by Dr. Daoed Joesoef. This study program has a vision to become a study program that is superior, innovative, has a global outlook and is integrated with Islamic values by 2030. Meanwhile, its missions are; First, to organize Indonesian language and literature education program that is superior, innovative, has a global outlook and is based on Islamic values; Second, to conduct research in the field of Indonesian language and literature education that is superior, innovative, has a global outlook and is based on Islamic values; Third, to organize community service in the field of Indonesian language and literature education or other fields that are oriented towards community empowerment; Fourth, to develop a network of cooperation in the field of Indonesian language and literature education with institutions within Muhammadiyah Association and other institutions, both on national and international levels. The graduates will hold a Bachelor of Education (S.Pd.) degree.

Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program graduates can work as lecturers, teachers and researchers. In addition, the graduates also have the opportunity to work as civil servants, journalists, writers, translators, book editors, public relation staff, and BIPA teachers (Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers)

The teaching staff in the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program of UAD consists of 2 Professors, 4 Associate Professors, 5 Assistant Professors (Lektor) and 14 Assistant Professors (Asisten Ahli)
